Strength & Spirit

A quarter-century ago, the spirit of Hyundai entered North America with the founding of Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas, Inc. The brand entered this market powered by a global giant – Hyundai Heavy Industries. Today, Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas embodies the Hyundai spirit, bringing Hyundai Founder Chung Ju-yung’s vision of extraordinary quality, innovation and performance to contractors, material handling operations and other equipment users across the United States and Canada.

Creative Wisdom

FABRICATED AND TRANSPORTED THE WORLD’S HEAVIEST OFFSHORE JACKET
Hyundai Heavy Industries fabricated and transported the world’s heaviest offshore jacket (bottom dimension: 91 m x 118 m, height: 375 m) of 40,000 tonnes for the offshore platform for Exxon of USA in 1989. HHI completed the project successfully through its art of positive thinking.

Positive Thinking

BUILT LARGE SHIPS ON THE GROUND, A WORLD FIRST
In 2004, Hyundai Heavy Industries successfully built two 105,000 tonne crude oil tankers ordered by Novoship of Russia, using the on-ground shipbuilding method as opposed to the industry’s traditional dry dock methods. The world’s first ship building on land was a splendid achievement that was made possible by creatively thinking outside the box—the “creative wisdom” that has become the signature of Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Unwavering Drive

BUILT SHIPS AND A SHIPYARD, ALL AT ONCE
The legacy of Hyundai Heavy Industries was born in the 1970s, from a South Korean banknote bearing the image of the “Geobukseon” (turtle ship), an armored warship used by the Royal Korean Navy to defend the nation against invaders in the 16th century, and a picture of South Korea’s barren white beaches. Today we are creating a new legacy based on our “Unwavering Drive,” which began in 1974 with the construction of two ships and a shipyard, all at the same time.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

Hyundai Heavy Industries, founded in 1972, has become a world leader in heavy industries by continuously taking on challenges and pioneering new opportunities based on the Hyundai Spirit. Building on the technologies that it has amassed in the shipbuilding industry, the company has expanded its businesses into the offshore & engineering, industrial plant, engine & machinery, electro electric systems, construction equipment, and green energy sectors. It has also aligned a number of subsidiaries, such as Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, Hyundai Oilbank, Hyundai Corporation, and Hi Investment & Securities, to facilitate the Group’s growth and serve as new growth engines.
